With nearly 40 years' experience, I thought that I had seen it all in the car business. Then, Covid 19 comes along and changes everything. About the time we begin to recover from Covid related factory shutdowns and stay at home orders, along comes the supplier issues with computer chips. A major fire in Japan and cold weather-related issues in Texas stifles new vehicle production around the world with chip shortages.
Today, car dealers find themselves woefully short on new vehicles. This in turn drives demand up with low supplies and used, preowned vehicle values skyrocketing. I personally study used vehicle pricing daily with our market-based pricing. Much like the stock market, used vehicles go up and down daily. The trend of late has been an upper rise in used vehicle values with some going up in value thousands of dollars in a very short time.
Due to short new vehicle supplies and high demand on used vehicles we are buying vehicles from private owners at a higher rate than ever before. Most people are absolutely thrilled at the offers we have been able to extend, some are even making money on vehicles they bought within the last couple years. Many are trading up and lowering their payments.
I strongly urge you, if you are thinking about making a vehicle change, now is the time!! I believe that you will never get more for the vehicle in your driveway than you will right now. This trend will not last, the market and used vehicle values will adjust, it always does and it won't be long.
